Safe storage of guns in order to protect families and prevent suicides
Be SMART is the public awareness program from Moms Demand Action about the importance of safe storage of guns in order to protect families and prevent suicides. Over 4 million children in the United States live in a house with an unlocked, loaded gun. The Be SMART presentation includes statistics and stories that make it clear why safe storage is essential.
Heather McNeil is the local co-lead for the Be SMART campaign. She has been a member of the Central Oregon Moms Demand Action chapter for three years. Heather lives in Bend, and is now retired after 20 years as the Youth Services Manager at Deschutes Public Library. She is also a professional storyteller, is the author of three books on storytelling and early literacy, and has another book coming out this year on social emotional learning at storytimes.
